June Shop of the Month
With a premium selection of sneakers, apparel, and other products, the Norse Store has been providing Denmark with quality wares since 2004. Based out of two primary locations in Copenhagen, the owners of ourShop of the Month for June spoke with us about their concept store born from the older generation of skaters and design nerds.
When did it all start?
It started with a store in Copenhagen that opened in 2004. From there, we were working on small, independent projects that eventually led to us launch an in-store line and open a womenswear store in 2015.
Why did you decide to open the original store?
We all had roots in skateboarding but we didn’t feel like there was anything in Copenhagen that appealed to the grown-up generation of skateboarders.
How would you describe the neighborhood in which the store is located?
It’s a calm neighborhood with loads of nice stores. Most of the stores have been around for years, so it’s a very friendly environment.
Please describe the kinds of books and other merchandise that you carry. What do you offer your customers?
Mens- and womenswear are our main focus with our in-house lines, complemented by brands from, in particular, Japan, US, and France. Beyond that, we’re quite nerdy about our book selections, which features everything from the Monocle series and Dieter Rams’ books to publications on Japanese art and design.
What are your favorite Gestalten books?
What are your customers’ favorite Gestalten books?
Less and More by Dieter Rams.
What kinds of people shop there? Who might be seen visiting the store?
Young creatives; architects and industrial designers; students and tourists alike.
Do you do anything at your store besides sell books? Do you, for example, have any events or exhibitions there?
We have events throughout the year to celebrate our in-house collaborations with a variety of brands and highlight new products in the store.
Is there anything else about the store that you'd like us to mention?
Nothing other than we hope people will stop by and say "Hi" when they’re in town!
